Devotion: Joyful Mysteries
Book Recommendation of the Day
On the Lapsed: St. Cyprian, addressing those who abandoned the faith under persecution.
Washed and Made Clean: Obedience, Rejection, and the Call to True Faith.
Welcome to today's episode, where we reflect on the scripture readings from the Roman Mass Missal of 1962 (Angelus Press) for March 24, 2025. We will also examine the traditional feast days, key themes, and inspiring quotes from a traditional Catholic perspective.
As we journey through Lent, Holy Mother Church calls us to greater vigilance, perseverance in faith, and trust in God's providence. Today’s readings remind us that God is our refuge, and His truth endures forever.
Scripture Readings for March 24, 2025 (Monday of the Third Week of Lent – Roman Missal 1962, Angelus Press)
Epistle: 4 Kings (2 Kings) 5:1-15 (The Healing of Naaman the Leper)
"Wash seven times in the Jordan, and thy flesh shall recover health, and thou shalt be clean."
Reflection:
• The great Syrian general Naaman suffers from leprosy and seeks healing from the prophet Eliseus (Elisha).
• He is told to bathe in the Jordan River seven times at first, he resists, but in the end, he obeys and is miraculously healed.
• Key Lesson: God often works through simple means we must trust and obey rather than demand extraordinary signs. The sacraments work in the same way Baptism, Confession, and Holy Communion cleanse and heal us.
Gospel: Luke 4:23-30 (The Rejection of Christ at Nazareth)
"Amen, I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country."
Reflection:
• Jesus returns to Nazareth, but His own people reject Him.
• He reminds them of Elijah and Eliseus, who worked miracles for Gentiles rather than Jews.
• The people become enraged and try to kill Him but He walks away untouched.
• Key Lesson:
o The world often rejects true messengers of God.
o Just as Naaman had to humble himself to be healed, we must humble ourselves before Christ and accept His truth.
o Lent is a time to examine our hearts do we resist God's call due to pride?
1. St. Gabriel the Archangel (Traditional Feast Day)
• This day historically honors St. Gabriel, the messenger of the Annunciation to Our Lady.
• He is the angel of divine revelation, strength, and purity.
• Key Lesson: We should invoke St. Gabriel’s intercession for clarity in our faith, courage in proclaiming the Gospel, and purity of heart.
2. St. Simon of Trent (†1475, Martyred Child) (Not in modern calendars, but traditionally honored)
• A Christian child martyred in Trent, Italy.
• His story reminds us that innocence and purity are often attacked by the world.
• Key Lesson: We must protect the innocence of children and stand firm against forces that seek to corrupt souls.
Themes of the Day
1. Humility & Obedience in Faith
o Like Naaman, we must obey God's instructions without demanding signs or grand gestures.
o True faith requires trusting in God's plan, even when it seems simple or unexpected.
2. Rejection of Christ & His Messengers
o Many reject the truth of the Gospel—then and now.
o Are we truly faithful to Christ, even when it makes us unpopular?
3. Angelic Assistance
o St. Gabriel reminds us that God often works through His angels to guide and protect us.
o We should pray for angelic protection, especially against spiritual blindness and pride.
o
Quotes for Reflection
• "Amen, I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country." – Luke 4:24
• "Wash, and be made clean." – 4 Kings (2 Kings) 5:13
• "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." – Hebrews 13:2
Conclusionary Prayer
"O Lord, grant us the grace of humility, that we may accept Thy will with trust and obedience. Help us to recognize Thy truth and never reject Thee through pride or hardness of heart. Through the intercession of St. Gabriel, may we receive the message of salvation with open hearts. Protect us from sin and guide us to eternal life. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen."
Closing Remarks
• Thank you for joining today’s episode.
• As we continue through Lent, let us:
o Humble ourselves before God.
o Obey His commandments, even in small things.
o Seek the intercession of St. Gabriel for strength and wisdom.
May Our Lord bless you and strengthen you in faith!
