MOHYELDIN: “Dean, your thoughts on this — “
WITHERS: “I couldn’t — “
MOHYELDIN: “Yeah, go ahead.”
WITHERS: “No, I was just going to say that I can’t agree more with the sentiment of, in a sense, meeting Republicans where they’re at. What I think is needed in America right now is for Democrats to be louder than they ever have been. I think that the high road that we’ve seen perpetuated a lot as this route that we should take is complicit, it means us being complicit and us being silent and us just rolling with the punches. It is more important than ever to point out that, yes, it is insane that Donald Trump wants to check and persecute anybody that has ever tried to critique him all throughout his life. It is insane that Donald Trump wants to abuse his position of authority, disrespect constitutional rights, as he did when he called MSNBC, the network and broadcast I’m on right now, illegal two weeks ago in the DoJ headquarters. And we need to make that messaging clear, because that’s the only thing that will check him. He wants people to love him. He wants people to praise him. But if we could genuinely cultivate an environment on both the right and the left now — that may take some work — to let it be known that the American people stand against corruption, stand against an abuse of power, and what is seemingly leading us down a pathway to blatant authoritarianism, as another individual on this platform has said, that is what we should do. And sometimes it doesn’t mean taking the high road.”
