The lesson on March 23, 2025 was part 27 of “The Book of Matthew” study and is the final one of this series. Wayne recapped what we had learned in the previous lesson and proceed to present Matthew 12 to us. In verse one, the Lord feeds his disciples on the sabbath day but in verse two, the Pharisees saw it and started accusing Jesus of his disciples not being lawful. In the Lord’s response, He explains out of the Old Testament of certain David eating on the Sabbath day, and scribes eating shewbread on the sabbath and in Matthew 12: 6 KJV He says “But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.” Wayne had us look at the word “greater” in other areas of Matthew. Matt. 12:41 KJV “The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.” and Matthew 12:42 KJV “The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.” The Lord is not just a great man or prophet, he is God! We then looked into Matthew 13 to see how Jesus was going to declare to Israel that they are not hearing or seeing what is in front of them. Matthew 13:13-14 says “13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:” It is repeated in John 12:39 KJV and finally in Acts 28:25-27 KJV. After the first two occurrences, Israel had a chance to repent but after the Acts 28 statement, the salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will accept it. PAul then writes Ephesians revealing Th Mystery where Christ has created a new man, and we are complete in him. This study in Matthew is now completed.

The scripture reading was from Matthew 12:1-8 KJV “1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. 3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him; 4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? 6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. 7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.”
