From the ancient peoples of Mesopotamia to modern day, vampires have captured the more fearful parts of the human imagination. The undead rising from graves only to feed on the blood of the living does spark a primal fear. One that may find its genesis from a more primitive existence.
There is no question that blood sucking monsters, like ticks, fleas and mosquitos—not to mention leeches, elicit an innate disgust for parasitic creatures.
While remaining mostly in folklore with a few exceptions, vampires didn’t capture popular imagination until Bram Stoker wrote his best-selling novel, Dracula.
What was unleashed by this work spawned countless iterations occupying all mediums, but primarily films.
