Disney about to lose millions. Go Woke, Go Broke.
Rachel Zegler: "It’s no longer 1937. She won’t be saved by the prince. She won’t be saved by the prince, and she won’t be dreaming of true love.
She dreams of becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader her late father told her she could be if she was brave, fair, bold, and true to herself. The original cartoon came out in 1937, and that is very evident.
It focuses a lot on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird, weird. So this time, we didn’t do that.
I was scared of the original cartoon. I think I watched it once and never saw it again. I first watched it when I was probably 16 or 17 years old.
The cartoon was made 85 years ago, and therefore, it is extremely outdated in terms of the idea of women in positions of power."
Disney's recent live-action adaptation of "Snow White," starring Rachel Zegler, has faced mixed reception and controversy since its announcement in 2021. Criticism has focused on various aspects, from the casting choices to Zegler’s comments about the 1937 original film.
Film Reception:
During its opening weekend, "Snow White" grossed approximately $45 million in the United States, a figure well below the initial expectations of up to $85 million. This performance positions it as one of Disney’s weakest openings in recent years. Reviews have been mixed; while some praise Zegler’s performance and the musical sequences, others believe the film fails to capture the essence of the original classic.
Rachel Zegler’s Comments on Walt Disney’s Original Work:
Zegler has publicly shared her perspective on the 1937 version, calling it "extremely outdated in terms of the idea of women in positions of power." She also mentioned that the plot focused too much on the love story with a prince who "literally stalks her," which she found strange. These statements sparked mixed reactions among Disney fans and film experts.
The combination of a divided critical reception and controversy surrounding Zegler’s comments has influenced public perception of the new "Snow White" adaptation. On film review sites such as IMDb, it has received a 2.3/10 rating, on Rotten Tomatoes, a 43% approval rating, and on Metacritic, a 1.3/10 score from audiences.
