Shooting From The Hip - 33 - Fear, Danger, Death
Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering - Yoda
Anger/ Hate - feel intense or passionate dislike for someone or something - to feel extreme enmity (en muh tee; state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something) toward: to regard with active hostility, to have a strong aversion to: find very distasteful
Suffering -the state of undergoing pain, distress, or hardship - implies an external & usually temporary cause of great physical or mental strain & stress - mental or emotional suffering; bodily suffering; Humiliations
Yoda tells Anakin; Careful you must be when sensing the future Anakin, the fear of loss is a path to the dark side
The enemy is fear. We think it is hate but it is fear - Mahatma Gandhi
Fear -an unpleasant emotion caused by belief that someone, something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat -a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. a specific instance of or propensity for such a feeling: an abnormal fear of heights
Psychology Of Fear - fear is experienced in the mind, it can have a strong physical reaction (body) -a primal emotion - involves a universal biochemical response & high individual stress & anxiety response - Fear alerts to the presence of danger or the threat of harm, whether physical or psychological
Fear a feature of nearly all clinical mental health problems & is a root cause of some of the most common ones -anxiety disorders -is strongly associated with depression, psychosis & suicide attempts -also strongly linked to poor physical health
Fear vs Anxiety: - are interrelated - When faced with fear, most people will experience physical reactions described as anxiety. Fear can cause anxiety & anxiety can cause fear - anger
3 Types of Fear: - primal, irrational, rational
Primal fear -is defined as an innate fear programmed into our brains by experience or shared knowledge to keep safe. For example, a fear of snakes. The caveman who feared snakes was less likely to be bitten by one than the caveman who played with snakes
Irrational fear: Irrational fears exist when no actual threat exists -Irrational fears are usually a type of anxiety disorder known as phobias - phobia is an uncontrollable, irrational & lasting fear of a certain object, situation or activity. This fear can be so overwhelming that a person may go to great lengths to avoid the source of this fear.
Arachnophobia -fear spiders, Acrophobia -fear heights, Cynophobia -fear dogs, Trypanophobia - fear injections, Pteromerhanophobia -fear flying, Mysophobia - fear germs, Ornithophobia - fear birds, Philophobia - fear love
Rational Fear: Rational fears occur where there is a real, imminent threat. If someone is brandishing a knife at you, the fear of being stabbed is a rational fear
Fear of the unknown -to be afraid when you have no information on any level about something you face - escalate into an intolerance of uncertainty -can be intense fear of uncertainty or unknown situations
Danger: the possibility of suffering harm or injury - a situation in which loss of life or serious harm is possible - hazard, peril, jeopardy imply harm that one may encounter
Definition: risks & hazards - Risk is “the possibility that something bad or unpleasant (such as injury or a loss) will happen”- Hazard is “a potential source of harm or danger” Danger is “something that may cause injury or harm” - According Canadian Public Health Association
Answer To Fear? To All Emotion? 'If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. We need not wait to see what others do.' - Mahatma Gandhi
Death - action or fact of dying or being killed; the end of the life of a person or organism - the total cessation of life processes -permanent cessation of brain function
Death is an inevitable process that eventually occurs in all organisms, living things
Metaphysical meaning of death - Physical dissolution of body; outer mental negation or spirit -Greek meta ta physika ("after the things of nature") idea, doctrine, or posited reality outside of human sense perception - modern philosophical terminology, refers to studies of what cannot be reached through studies of material reality
Does death add meaning to life? Some pessimists claim that death renders life meaningless. Conversely, Bernard Williams & Viktor Frankl contend that death is what gives meaning to life -life is transient but that it is also worth living positively - it's transient nature can teach one to appreciate life all the more & revel in the experience
