Qi, QiGong - Chinese & East Asian cultural sphere - qi, chi - vital force of any living entity - meaning "vapor", "air", "breath"- often translated "vital energy", "vital force", the central underlying principle in traditional Chinese medicine & Chinese martial arts - cultivating & balancing it

Qi, Chi considered building blocks of the material world & everything in it, Aether: unseen, immeasurable, active flows through all living things & non-living things - earliest texts; exist since 2nd Century BCE, Han Dynasty - Qi, Chi flow determines health & lifespan; transcendence - using breath-work & meditation can vitalize Qi

Neidan; inner alchemy: involves breath-work, meditation - can lead to self transcendence, enlightenment, immortality; transforms mortal body

3 dantians:
1. Lower dantian: Jing - just below navel, between navel & perineum - is also called "the golden stove" or "elixir-of-life field" - develop elixir by refining, cultivating & purifying essence (jing) into vitality, qi - we use it up, as we age & when we neglect physical, mental health (avoid stress) - when used all up, you die - be replenished by practicing Qigong, Tai Chi, meditation, concentration & Yoga - build up abundance of Jing, excess moves to middle Dantian - improving health 2. Middle dantian: Qi (vital force energy) - at level of the heart - also called "the crimson palace" - storing spirit (shen) & respiration, health of the internal organs -this cauldron is where vitality, qi is refined into shen or spirit 3.Upper dantian: Shen - forehead between the eyebrows or 3rd eye - this cauldron is where shen or spirit is transmuted to wu wei or emptiness

QI, Chi Powers: transmute being into being of pure Qi - Unification with Tao - travel universe thru universal meridians - ability to master, bend to will all manner of creatures; insects, big cats, snakes - to resist the effects of edged weapons, repair wounds rapidly, survive on minimum amount of food, distance healing of others,

Advanced Kung Fu martial arts: Neijing - refers to the conscious control of the practitioner's qi, "life energy", to gain advantages in combat - developed by using "Neigong"
2 Separate Forms Of Personal Force:
1. Li: - refers to use of tangible physical, "external" force (muscles)
2. Neijing or Neigong: - refers to "internal" force - advanced mental control over psychic energy, qi
Martial artists - can harness force of qi to be applied in combat - directing qi by will - Neijing is invisible - At point of attack, one must ‘song’ (loosen) themselves to generate energy & direct it through; point of contact with opponent - point of contact, conduct of energy - to unlock Neijing; practice ‘song’ - term ‘song’ can mean to keep one's mind & body loose resilient & expanding - relaxed & concentrated like cats immediately before attack - the greater the ‘song’ & minimum use of Li, the greater the release of Neijing force
