Jacob and Esau Make Peace Then Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming with his 400 men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and his two servant wives.

The Word of God To Meditate On Today
Gen 33:1 - Why Did Esau Approach Jacob With 400 Soldiers?
Esau either brought this many men to take vengeance (as he had vowed in Gen_27:41), to honor Jacob, or to make a show of his own power. If vengeance was the motive, God changed his mind. If it was to honor or show power, he had the satisfaction of seeing his brother greatly humbled before him (Gen_27:3). Four hundred soldiers were eighty-two more than the number Abraham had in his war with the five kings of the East (Gen_14:8). This indicates several thousands were in his kingdom. Though he failed morally otherwise, Esau did show manly traits in burying his resentments and forgetting his injuries. His forgiveness seems to have been complete. This happened because God intervened.

Only with my eyes shalt I behold And see the wicked receive their rewards. Because I have made the LORD, my refuge, Even the most High, my habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For God shall give his angels charge over thee, To keep thee in all my ways. They shall bear me up in their hands, Lest I dash thy foot against a stone. I shall tread upon the lion and adder: The young lion and the dragon shalt I trample under feet. Because I have set my love upon God, therefore will He deliver me: He will set him on high, because I have known His name. I shall call upon Him, and He will answer me: He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me, and honour me. With long life will God satisfy me, And shew me His salvation. So shall it be for me and my household throughout this week in Jesus' name!
