Long before he was an Admiral in the United States Navy, Richard E. Byrd was an intrepid explorer, driven to discover the innermost and outermost parts of earth. Having already flown over the North Pole, he set his sights on the "South Pole". This time he was helped by the U.S. government. Now as an officer in the U.S. Navy, Byrd took a well financed and well equipped expedition team to Antarctica. This brief newsreel video discusses some of that expedition in 1933.
