The Early Church Part 3: The Impact of the Holy Spirit

No one had an inkling what was going to happen when the Holy Spirit arrived. One minute the upper room was quiet and the next it was filled with the sound of a powerful wind, tongues of fire rested on each person’s head, and they began speaking in an unknown language.

This is how the church came into being on the day of Pentecost. But it did not end there. The men and women spilled out into the street and were subsequently accused of being drunk. Peter defended their actions, spoke about the risen Messiah, and invited the onlookers to repent of their sins.

What happened next was nothing short of astounding as 3,000 men responded to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Nothing like this had occurred in the Old Testament as the early church was catapulted into the spiritual dimension. The Holy Spirit’s presence was a new day for mankind and the spiritual fire would continue to burn, adding new numbers to the Kingdom of God!
