NOLA to SF Journey, 1941
34
This 1941 Summers Collection home movie, shot in Kodachrome, traces a trip from New Orleans to San Francisco. New Orleans bursts with street scenes—Cafe du Monde, an Aunt Jemima-like dancer, aboveground cemeteries, and the Huey Long Bridge—before shifting to train POVs of Memphis’ Peabody Hotel, Vicksburg, and dancing African-American girls roadside. Countryside rolls by—rivers, canyons, deserts—ending with a California dog in a yard and a Golden Gate Bridge sunset, a pre-WWII odyssey of Americana.
