Trump rescinds order that suspended security clearances at top law firm

President Donald Trump agreed to rescind an executive order suspending security clearances for lawyers and staff at the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.

In return, the firm committed to providing $40 million in pro bono legal services during Trump’s term, auditing its employment practices, and not adopting diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.

The deal follows a meeting between Trump and the firm’s chairman, Brad Karp, where Karp acknowledged the wrongdoing of former partner Mark Pomerantz.

This move is part of Trump’s broader efforts to target law firms with liberal-leaning practices, including Covington & Burling and Perkins Coie, by suspending their security clearances, CNN has reported.

Paul Weiss chose to settle instead of suing, marking a rare instance of a firm making such a commitment.
