Miracle: Our Lady Destroys a Pagan Temple — Part 1

When Our Lady still walked the earth, she was gifted with an incredible amount of holy angels, and at the same time, crushed an unimaginable number of demons. Why and how did she combat Lucifer and his demons? Stay tuned to hear the story.

Our story comes to us from the visionary Sr. Maria de Agreda, whose body is incorrupt, meaning it hasn’t deteriorated since she died almost 400 years ago. We begin with Our Lady, who arrived in Ephesus with Saint John while she was still living on earth after the death of Christ. She was treated with great hospitality there and, in charity, she prayed for the city and asked for God’s blessing.

Then God revealed to Our Lady that if she had not arrived at that time when the Ephesians had reached their most wicked point, Divine punishment, would have come upon the city because Lucifer had set up his throne there.

The knowledge of that coming chastisement afflicted Our Lady’s kind heart and in charity, she multiplied her prayers for the Ephesians, and then she appealed to Our Lord’s mercy. She told Him how the Ephesians treated her hospitably and even asked that God punish her in their place!

But what had the Ephesians done that deserved God’s righteous punishment and demanded reparation? Our Lord showed His Mother in a vision, and it went like this:

Centuries before the Incarnation, Lucifer held a specific meeting with the demons, the subject being that Our Lord would come into the world and give graces of poverty, chastity and obedience to many. In rebellion, the demons desired to create a false religion that mocked these virtues. But specifically, they wanted to focus on attacking consecrated virginity.

And so, the demons set up a counterfeit religious order of virgins who consecrated their virginity to the devil, who hates chastity and purity so much that if any of these virgins remained chaste in body, the demons would attack them with unchaste thoughts and desires, while they kept the title of “virgin.”

Over time, the false religion grew. And of these false virgins, a woman named Diana stood out and was eventually worshipped as a goddess by the masses. So, when the order decided to build a temple to their cult, they named it after Diana.

Now, during the time of Our Lord’s life on earth, nearly all the women of the Cult of Diana regularly interacted and conversed with demons and preached false prophecies inspired by the eternal loser.

So that’s why God wanted to punish the city, notably the Temple of Diana. The temple mocked the coming of Christian-consecrated virginity in monks and nuns and blasphemed the true God. And all of this mockery required reparation.

These revelations struck Our Lady with such great sorrow that she would have died “if The Lord had not preserved her.” She said, “My [Immaculate] heart cannot bear to see that an unhappy and abominable woman receive the worship due to the True God, such as Thou alone as the Infinite deserves; nor can I endure to see the name of chastity so profaned and prostituted in honor of the demons.”

So, moved by the spirit of reparation, she asked Our Lord to chastise Lucifer and all of hell and to rescue the poor souls in the Cult of Diana. And Our Lord granted her petition but warned that many of the false virgins were obstinate and only a few would accept the true faith.

Then Our Lady commanded the legions of demons in the Temple of Diana to “descend immediately into the depths of hell. So great was the terror by which She struck them down that as soon as She opened her lips to pronounce the first word, they waited not for the second, for they were already in hell with the swiftness proper to pure spirits that seemed to them tardy in their flight from the Mother of the Omnipotent.” The demons were unable to leave hell until God permitted them.

What happens next, during the actual destruction of the pagan temple, is almost impossible to believe. But I must save that part of the story for next time.
