Bones

Our sweet Bones. 17 years of a very good boy.

My very good boy, sweet Bones, went to Heaven March 9th. I’ve had him so long it seems like I’ve had him my whole life.
Seventeen years are impossible to sum up in a few words. He was silly! When he was young, he used to hide potatoes in the couch cushions and pillows. He was loyal, loving, and full of personality.

He lived a long, good life, it was never going to be enough time with him and I was never going to be ready. This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through…maybe the hardest. But God gave us 16 1/2 wonderful years with him, longer than most ever get. I can’t wish for more without being ungrateful for the incredible time we had.

Bones gave us 16 1/2 years of love. He was Cade’s loyal friend. He was always Kaycee’s partner in crime when she was little. His presence & personality filled our home…now there is a big gaping hole where he used to be.

I take comfort in knowing Bones is in Heaven. There are mixed opinions on that subject because the Bible doesn’t really say. I know Bones is there for a fact, as surely as I know Jesus is real. Before sin entered the world, God’s original plan was for humans and animals to live together in harmony. The Bible calls the new earth “Paradise Restored”…and restored means to return something to its original condition.

They will absolutely be in Heaven with us. God wouldn’t give us a gift so loving and fully devoted to us and not include them in Heaven.
This occurred to me just before Bones passed away. I had been praying for comfort and the strength to get through this…and those words came to me as if I had always known them.

God spelled backwards is dog. God made us in his image…I think God made dogs in the image of his heart. Their love and loyalty is just about the closest thing on earth there is to God’s. They love us no matter who we are, what we look like, or how we treat them. I’ll see Bones again!
