Luke 4 - We are told that idolatry stems from wormwood poisoning. 2017

Luke 4:8
And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"

Yeshua once again rebukes Satan with the words of Elohim spoken through His prophet Moses.

Deut. 6:13-15 “You shall fear only the LORD your God; and you shall worship Him, and swear by His name. 14“You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, 15for the LORD your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.

Paul tells us that idolatry is actually the worship of demons (1 Cor. 10:20-22). Moses dealt with idolatry several times in trying to keep Israel away from it. In Torah, we are told that idolatry stems from wormwood poisoning.

Deut. 29:17-20 “Moreover, you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which they had with them); 18lest there shall be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations; lest there shall be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood. 19“And it shall be when he hears the words of this curse, that he will boast, saying, ‘I have peace though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order to destroy the watered land with the dry.’ 20“The LORD shall never be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and His jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse which is written in this book will rest on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.

This is why Elohim prohibited idolatry in His Torah. When we try to worship Him in the same manner that the Gentiles worship their idols and other false gods, we are worshiping demons even if we change the names.

Deut. 12:29-32 “When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations which you are going in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, 30beware that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?’ 31“You shall not behave thus toward the LORD your God, for every abominable act which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods. 32“Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it.
