Trump Shows Off Famous ‘Nuclear’ Diet Coke Button On Resurrected Resolute Desk in Oval Office
Oval Office, March 19, 2025 — President Trump sat down with Laura Ingraham at the historic Resolute Desk, highlighting its restoration, the history of presidential desks, and his infamous Diet Coke button—often mistaken for nuclear launch controls.
A Desk with Presidential History
Sitting behind the newly restored Resolute Desk, Trump beamed with pride.
"The Resolute Desk, by the way, I had that just redone by an unbelievable group. They do only the White House and the furniture they get is only very special," he told Ingraham. "Many great presidents sat behind this desk, and many didn’t. You know, they have seven?"
Trump revealed that presidents are given a choice of seven desks when they take office. Asked why he chose this one, he replied:
"I just like the history. Reagan had it, Kennedy had it—that was the famous one with John-John under the desk. I knew him very well, great guy. He was going to get into politics. He would’ve had a real chance."
The ‘Nuclear’ Diet Coke Button
Ingraham then pointed to the famous red button on the desk, prompting Trump to explain one of the most talked-about Oval Office features.
"Everyone thinks it’s the nuclear button," Trump laughed. "They think it’s for launching missiles. They say, 'Oh, this is the end of the world!' But no, it’s just for Diet Coke."
The button became a viral sensation during Trump’s first term when it was revealed that pressing it summoned a White House butler to bring him a Diet Coke.
Trump’s Signature and Executive Orders
Ingraham then noted the bold, instantly recognizable nature of Trump’s signature.
"Have you signed your name that way since you were little?" she asked.
"Pretty much, but it’s become sharper," Trump said. "If you look at it from 20 years ago, it was similar, but much softer."
The conversation then turned to the reading of executive orders. Trump explained that he used to have them read aloud, particularly for the media, but now he handles them with efficiency:
"I don’t even have to move. I’ll sit here and sign them while doing other work. I could be in a news conference and signing at the same time."
Presidential Ice Cream vs. Policy
Trump also mocked how the media’s priorities have shifted, referencing the press fixation on President Biden’s ice cream habits:
"You had another guy, I won’t name him, but his favorite ice cream was always the big story. They’d start a press conference, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, let’s talk about his ice cream choice!’ It was crazy."
On Former Presidents and Obama
Ingraham then asked if Trump ever calls former presidents.
"A lot was made out of the fact that I got along very well with President Obama," Trump admitted.
Pressed further on his relationships with past presidents, Trump clarified:
"I was friends with pretty much all of them, but I didn’t like the job they did. That’s the sad part about it. They let our country down."
