Claims that Owens' was snubbed by Hitler, that Owens' refused to shake his hand, or that the German people were racist against him are so laughably backwards that it borders on comedic. Mr. Owens spoke openly and often about how well he was treated by the German people, and how Hitler applauded him and sent him a letter of praise after his win. Owens' said no one in Germany said anything racist towards him even once, yet even after his Olympic win, he encountered that often in America, the nation he won the Gold Medal for. Until his death, Jessie carried an autographed photo sent to him by Hitler of the 2 men embracing, and said the German crowd was the best crowd he ever experienced in his life. When Owens' returned home from his Olympic win in Germany, he was snubbed by president FDR who refused to allow him to come to the White House with the other Olympic medal winners. Partly because he openly talked of how gracious the German people were and how kind and full of praise Hitler was towards him. It didn't fit the propaganda narrative America wanted to spin, and to this day, false claims made against Germany during WWII are some of the greatest historical lies that many still believe today. Hollywood is especially egregious in producing 8 or more films each year to wrongly slander Germany and perpetuate these lies, knowing all too well that many Americans get their history from these movies.
