On March 19, 2022, Stavon Moore, then 28, was involved in a deadly shootout at the Royal Gas Station in Oakland, California, killing bystander Rodney Davis, 64, and paralyzing Tyja Braswell, 22. The incident began with an argument inside the gas station, where Moore and his partner, Tamia Foster, were reportedly buying marijuana from Braswell, a known drug dealer in the area. Rodney Davis, an Army veteran, was also present at the gas station to purchase drugs from Braswell. The dispute escalated when Foster retrieved a gun from their vehicle and handed it to Moore. Surveillance footage showed Braswell reaching for her own weapon, prompting Moore to open fire first. In the ensuing crossfire, Davis was killed, and Braswell was paralyzed from the waist down.

Moore and Braswell were charged with murder and attempted murder, while Foster faced an assault charge for providing the gun. In October 2023, a jury acquitted Moore of the major charges, accepting his self-defense argument supported by the video evidence, but convicted him of felony gun possession due to a prior felony record. He was sentenced to six years in prison in November 2023, with time served reducing his remaining sentence. Foster took a plea deal with no jail time, and Braswell, after her murder charge was dropped, received probation. No further incidents involving Moore as a suspect in 2025 are noted as of March 20, 2025.
