1 Samuel 7:7-8:8, Thus Far the Lord Has Helped Us

In response to Samuel’s call for repentance and his sacrifice, God delivers Israel from the Philistines. “Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us’” (Samuel 7:12 NKJV). When Samuel was old, the elders came to Samuel to demand that he appoint a king to rule in his place. “And the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them” (1 Samuel 8:7 NKJV).

We see parallels between God’s deliverance of the Israelites from slavery to the Philistines and His deliverance of us from slavery to sin and Satan, when we repent and humbly call on Him for salvation. Pastor Kevin exhorts believers today to guard against anything in the world today that threatens to rule over our lives instead of Jesus.

Maranatha!
