Legacy Conversations - Diaz Augusto - 31/201Bn - EPISODE 4 - November 2024 and Feedback March 2025

31 Battalion was a light infantry battalion in the South African Army and SWATF. The battalion consisted of men recruited from the hunter-gatherer San people - thus becoming known as the "Bushman" Battalion.

In this episode, Diaz Augusto, a Bushman soldier, is in need of assistance. He lost his left leg and arm in an RPG7 attack in 1985. Now, 68 years old, he lives basically alone in a small dwelling at Platfontein, Kimberley, without electricity or running water and is becoming blind through cataracts growth in his eyes.
