Reel #216 A Basement Renovation Mishap

Hey folks, I had to take a break for a few weeks because we experienced a flood from a broken water line on the washing machine. Unfortunately, the leak caused a flood of about one inch of water soaking the Dricore subfloor. We called the insurance company and the flooring had to be removed. The abatement company notices that the concrete floor had been painted and it was peeling from the water. They tested it and discovered that it was lead based. Normally, you would clean it up and continue on as the best policy is to cover it up. Most homes built prior to 1980 have lead based paint. Typically you use a neutralizing primer and cover it up. This company decided to try and remove it, unsuccessfully! They applied a very toxic solvent that forced the home owners out of their home for two weeks, delaying the job. Notice the tarps, exhaust fan, and tubing , creating a negative air space. This type of abatement is extremely dangerous. Do not do this on your own. Hire a professional trained in this type of abatement. Check out this short video.
