Over 8 million voted on July 30 to elect a Constituent Assembly to entrench the rights of the working class and to advance to socialism. Who is responsible for the shortages, for the violence, for threatening to overthrow the elected President Nicolas Maduro? What should defenders of popular democracy and self-determination do?

Guest speaker: María Páez Victor, MA. PhD, is a sociologist, born and graduated in Caracas, Venezuela. She has an MA from the University of Kent at Canterbury, England and a Ph.D from York University. With many years of international experience in policy analysis and environmental assessment, Dr. Victor taught at the University of Toronto. She is Chair of the think-tank the Canadian, Latin American and Caribbean Policy Centre, and recently returned from a visit to Venezuela.
