Mass Reading Reflection for Wednesday, March 19, 2025

Second Week of Lent (Year B) is Matthew 20:17-28,
with the first reading from Jeremiah 18:18-20 and Psalm 31:5-6, 14-16.

“O Jesus, in today’s Gospel, Thou foretellest Thy Passion—betrayal, death, and rising await Thee. Bishop Sheen proclaimed, ‘The cup of suffering is the chalice of glory.’ Jeremiah cries, ‘They plot against me,’ yet Thou, O Lord, art his shield and ours. St. Charbel bids you taste your own small cross today, for love drinks what pride refuses. The sons of Zebedee seek thrones, but Thou teachest, ‘Serve, not rule’—greatness lies low. This Lent, bow your head to serve one soul, for Thou, O Lord, didst kneel to wash our feet. Let your life pour out, and His rising shall lift you high.”
