Atomic Biscuits - 20250302 - A Proxy Mate

I can recall being in fourth grade where we had a fellow student who needed a bit of extra care. We were told that there would be times when he might need to step outside and have a snack, usually some corn chips. We didn’t really understand why this one kid, out of 35 of us, would get to avoid some spelling or math work, or a lecture on handwriting, to take a snack break. We didn’t understand what being diabetic even meant. It was weird to us and as far as we knew he was the only one in a school of hundreds and hundreds.
Some will say that it’s because it went undiagnosed, but I disagree… we just didn’t have that many folks with severe, chronic medical issues in the seventies. We all drank whole milk multiple times each day, we played outside until we were filthy and stank, we biked and ran and were active…eating red meat, a lot, but our mothers also made sure we ate our vegetables and cleaned our plates, reminding us we were fortunate to have plenty to eat as there were kids in China who were starving.
Fast forward to today, post jab. There is a pandemic alright, and it’s the endemic wreckage left by tinkering with nearly everyone on the planet. From autoimmune disorders to food allergies to diabetes, everyone seems to be broken… I wonder what changed.
