Netanyahu Just Plunged Israel Into CRISIS!
Right, so the ceasefire in Gaza has been shattered overnight, I hesitate to say ended, because functionally it ended some time ago, Israel has been breaching the ceasefire across Gaza for weeks, not least with its blockade of aid going on for the last two weeks, but last nights attacks were certainly the largest since before the ceasefire came into effect and therefore do herald the fact that we’re very much back now to where we were before, and with it, any semblance of hope for peace in the region in the immediate future. In the early hours of the morning, Israel launched a devastating series of airstrikes across Gaza, killing hundreds of Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injuring countless others. This brutal assault marks a return to the genocidal violence that has characterized Israel’s military campaigns in Gaza for a great many years, but certainly to most people’s notice since the events of October 7th 2023. However this time, the timing and motivations behind the attacks are impossible to ignore.
Where Hamas bore responsibility for the events of October 7th, what came after in Gaza was on Israel and the resumption of attacks now, is also on Israel. The resumption of violence comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, facing mounting political pressure, with his coalition government teetering on the brink of collapse if he didn’t do what his far right coalition partners wanted, which was to finish the job as they put it. The decision to restart the war in Gaza appears to be less about security or strategic necessity and certainly not about rescuing hostages, but more about Netanyahu’s desperate attempt to cling to power. We know it, we see you and your excuses, and you will be held accountable for what you’ve done and what you are starting again now.
Right, so the scale of the attacks unleashed on Gaza overnight are staggering, quite simply the worst attacks we’ve seen in Gaza since before the ceasefire.
Over 330 people have been killed overnight, with children making up the majority of the victims. Entire families were wiped out in the blink of an eye, their homes reduced to rubble. The Israeli military issued evacuation orders in several areas, forcing thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes once again, only to find themselves of course with nowhere safe to go. A statement issued on the situation at time of writing from Al Jazeera reading:
‘The death toll from Israel’s attacks on Gaza has risen to 342 Al Jazeera reported, citing health authorities.
Israel launched the surprise wave of attacks on the besieged enclave early on Tuesday in a unilateral end of its ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
•Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he has instructed the military to take “strong action” against Hamas in Gaza, accusing the group of refusing to release captives and rejecting all ceasefire proposals
• “Netanyahu and his extremist government have decided to overturn the ceasefire agreement, exposing the [Israeli] prisoners in Gaza to an unknown fate,” Hamas said on Tuesday morning
• Families of Israeli captives said they are “shocked, angry, and terrified by the deliberate dismantling of the (ceasefire) process” as they condemned Israel’s renewed attacks on Gaza. “The greatest fear of the families, the hostages and the citizens of Israel has come true – The Israeli government has chosen to give up on the hostages,” the statement read.’
Blame absolutely being attributed exactly where it is due, even by the people of Israel, but I’ll come back to that and some other points raised there in a moment.
The human impact of these attacks on the people of Gaza though is immeasurable. Hospitals in Gaza, already overwhelmed and under-resourced, are struggling to cope with the influx of casualties. Doctors and nurses are working around the clock to save lives, but they are running out of medical supplies and fuel to power generators, the electricity of course already turned off taking offline much medical equipment as it is. The psychological toll on survivors, particularly children, is profound. Many have lost loved ones, their homes, and any sense of security, as much as they can have any, is gone.
The timing of these attacks though raise serious questions about the motivations behind them, because we know a lot about these I’ve certainly been raising them again and again on this channel. Benjamin Netanyahu’s political survival has long been tied to his ability to maintain the support of his far-right coalition partners, who have consistently advocated for a hardline approach to Gaza following the night of October 7th, circumstantial evidence at the very least, indicating the plausibility of Israeli engineering of that night, not that that excuses the role Hamas played of course. But with his government on the verge of collapse should Netanyahu agree to move to the previously agreed to phase 2 of the ceasefire, which would have seen the release of all remaining hostages combined with full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and work towards a permanent peace settlement, Netanyahu could never follow through with this, he had to find away out, and he tried to change the deal of course, tried to extend phase one even though all parts of that had been fulfilled, tried to force the issue by cutting of aid and electricity, back to committing war crimes and when that didn’t work, he decides to just unilaterally end matters, and making the ridiculous claim that this was necessary to secure the release of the hostages that are left n Gaza, when even his people don’t buy that – the hostages were being released, the deal was sound, the only problem with it, was that it would dump Netanyahu himself out of power and therefore he has put himself first. Every single injury and fatality overnight was in order for Netanyahu to stay in power. No other reason, that is it. This was a calculated move by Netanyahu that a return to the genocide in Gaza would rally his coalition around him and shore up his own position. This is something Netanyahu has done throughout his career, he has repeatedly escalated violence in Gaza to distract from domestic scandals and consolidate power and there is an argument that everything that has led up to where we are today in Gaza has been by his design, it is believable because of his own horrendous track record going back years, he’s not been Israel’s longest running PM for nothing, he’s quite prepared to sacrifice human lives to stay in power and for his own political gain, be they Palestinians or the Israeli hostages that remain in Gaza, 57 of them.
The decision to end the ceasefire now and resume attacks on Gaza was not made in a vacuum either. Israeli officials had apparently been planning this assault for weeks, undermining claims that the attacks were a response to specific provocations or security threats in the here and now, it has been on the cards since the new Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir came into his post, having been drawing up plans for going back into Gaza.
The resumption of violence in Gaza has also exposed the complicity of the international community in aiding and abetting Israel too, particularly the United States, as this excerpt from The Cradle shows:
‘Hamas slams the Trump’s administration confirmation that it was informed previously about the resumption of war in Gaza.
This confirms its direct complicity in the ongoing genocide against our people.
This acknowledgment further exposes America's blatant bias and complicity with the occupation, revealing the false of its claims to be concerned with achieving a ceasefire.
Through its unlimited political and military support for the occupation, Washington bears full responsibility for the massacres and the killing of women and children in Gaza.’
Yes, the Trump administration was informed in advance of Israel’s plans to resume attacks on Gaza and gave its tacit approval. This is entirely consistent with the long-standing pattern of US support for Israel’s military campaigns, regardless of their human cost. The Biden administration of course, while expressing concern over the atrocities, refused to take any meaningful action to hold Israel accountable and the trump administration is no different. Be it Biden or Trump, the US continues to provide Israel with billions of dollars in military aid making them entirely complicit.
The international community’s failure to act in the face of Israel’s genocide in Gaza is a moral failure of the highest order. The United Nations and other international bodies have repeatedly condemned Israel’s actions, but these condemnations have not been backed by any action to enforce international law. The result is a culture of impunity that allows Israel to continue its crimes with no fear of consequences and that is dangerous because there are no limits it seems to their depravity.
The role of the mainstream media in shaping public perception of the violence in Gaza can’t be ignored either, even as the genocide appears to be resuming in full. While some outlets, such as The Cradle or Al Jazeera or Middle East Eye and Skwawkbox have provided critical coverage of the attacks, others have done little more than manufacturing consent for Israel’s actions.
Here's a few examples shared by author Assal Rad, noting the narratives of strikes against Hamas, when most of the casualties as we know have been women and kids. It is sick and dishonest and helps nobody save those committing the atrocities as you provide cover for what they are really doing.
Even pro-Zionist outlets, such as The Times of Israel, have criticised Netanyahu for what he has done here, making it quite clear that his actions are endangering those remaining hostages, not helping to rescue them.
The term “genocide” might be too strong for some, more interested in excusing Israel and protecting their relationships with Israel Lobbyists than holding Israel to account, but it is the only appropriate term to describe what is happening in Gaza both before the ceasefire and here and now again. The Genocide Convention clearly defines genocide as acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group. Israel’s actions in Gaza—its blockade, its military assaults, its destruction of homes and infrastructure—meet this definition. The intent to destroy Gaza as a viable entity is clear, and the international community’s failure to act makes it complicit in this genocide as it resumes once again
The resumption of violence in Gaza is a tragedy and a failure of international will to hold Israel to account, but it is not an inevitability. It is the result of deliberate political choices made by Benjamin Netanyahu and his government, choices that have been enabled by the complicity of the international community and the failure of the media to hold Israel accountable. The people of Gaza deserve better. They deserve to live in peace, free from the constant threat of violence and the daily indignities of Israeli occupation and blockade.
As the world watches in horror once again at this latest chapter in Israel’s genocide in Gaza unfolding, it is imperative that we not remain silent about it. We must demand accountability for the crimes being committed and those committing them especially when it is allies of Israel doing so in our name as our leaders make themselves complicit. We must pressure our governments to take concrete action to hold Israel accountable, demanding the imposition of sanctions and ending military aid. We must challenge the narratives that legitimise Israel’s actions, the political cover that keeps getting provided for them and amplify the voices of those who are fighting for justice and equality in Palestine.
The end of the Gaza ceasefire is not just a tragedy for the people of Gaza; it is a test of our collective humanity that we not let this carry on or be done in our names.
All of the actions Israel now take going forwards will be more evidence being provided for that case of genocide being made against them at the ICJ, but a new report provided by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel has blown Israel’s excuses apart and you can find out all about that in this video recommendation right here as your suggested next watch.
