Chris Murphy responds on how, according to him, they recovered the lost votes
Chris Murphy: "So, this party has recently become addicted to writing checks to people to compensate for the way the economy is manipulated. I'm not saying that the child tax credit now, we're moving forward, right? I'm not saying that the child tax credit isn't a good thing, or that a little more money for your Obamacare subsidy isn't a good thing. But that doesn't make people feel good, that you have to give them a little money to compensate for the fact that work doesn't pay in this country. That pharmaceutical CEOs are coming out like bandits buying their seventh house, right?
So, if you were really serious, if you were really serious about communicating a message that resonates with people, you wouldn't just be talking about negotiating differently for 10 drugs. You'd be talking about putting a cap on how much any pharmaceutical company can sell drugs to any American for."
Chris Murphy, in his appearance on Jon Stewart's show, addressed the growing economic inequality and the lack of significant measures to address it. He criticized how the U.S. government has opted for temporary measures like child tax credits and Obamacare subsidies to mitigate the effects of an economy that favors large corporations. Despite the enormous wealth of pharmaceutical CEOs, the working class is not receiving a fair wage. Murphy emphasized that, rather than just negotiating drug prices, there should be a cap on what pharmaceutical companies can charge Americans. In his view, such structural changes are needed to tackle the deep inequalities in the system. In summary, Murphy calls for comprehensive reform that goes beyond superficial solutions and addresses the root causes of the economic problems affecting the majority of citizens. He also mentioned that the Democratic Party must take more risks in light of the noticeable drop in approval from Americans. According to him, by taking bolder steps, the party would be able to regain the votes it lost in the last presidential election. It is worth noting that the Democratic Party was unable to compete electorally against the Republican Party. Although they changed candidates at the last moment to a woman who self-identified as Black, solely to attract the African American vote, she was unsuccessful, as this time American citizens voted for the candidate they believed had the capacity to address the most pressing issues, such as the economy, drug trafficking and consumption, and security. The Democrats continue to carry the legacy of the Biden administration, which some consider the worst administration in U.S. history.
