On March 15, during the ongoing Serbia student protests in Belgrade, a loud and strange noise caused protesters to panic and flee in confusion. Some witnesses described the sound as “creepy” and reported symptoms like headaches, ear pain, and disorientation. The cause remains unknown, but forensic analysis suggests it may have been a sonic weapon—specifically, a Vortex cannon, which emits high-speed gas producing a loud, jet-engine-like noise.

Despite these claims, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has denied the existence of a sound cannon in the Serbian Army. While officials continue investigating, several NGOs and experts suspect a sound weapon may have been used to disperse the student protests. The European Union has called for an independent inquiry into the incident.
