The Lantern Man

Fog creeps low on cobbled streets,
Cold wind hums with hollow beats,
Lantern sways through mist and dread,
Guided by the man long dead.

Boots that scrape on weary stone,
Eyes that burn where light has grown,
Iron grin and breath so foul,
Guiding souls to midnight’s prowl.

Follow close, the Lantern Man,
Where shadows crawl and curse the land,
Light will flicker, hope will bend,
Guiding fools to their bitter end.

Eyes that glow like embered ash,
Dragging chains through puddles’ splash,
Guiding wanderers through the fog,
Till they sink in cursed bog.

Speak his name and lose your breath,
Choking on the taste of death,
Light that sways through crooked trees,
Leading souls to bended knees.

Run away, but lights will chase,
Twisting paths through time and space,
Follow not the lantern’s gleam,
Or lose your soul to endless dream.

Follow close, the Lantern Man,
Where shadows crawl and curse the land,
Light will flicker, hope will bend,
Guiding fools to their bitter end.

When dawn breaks, the light will die,
Fog recedes and spirits cry,
But in the dusk where fear awakes,
The Lantern Man, his toll, he takes.
