Canada's new prime minister, Mark Carney, met Sir Keir Starmer in Downing Street, with the UK leader welcoming the relationship between the "two sovereign allies".

Mr Carney, who is a former governor of the Bank of England, challenged Donald Trump to stop suggesting his country could become the 51st state saying that "Canada is strong, we can stand up for ourselves".
