At the beginning of the talks, Putin congratulated Rahmon on his party's victory in the elections in Tajikistan: "This once again confirms that the people of Tajikistan support you. We very much hope that your course towards good-neighborly, friendly relations, relations of strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Russia also finds support among the citizens of the republic."

At the same time, the Russian leader reminded his colleague of the invitation to take part in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow. As Putin noted, they had previously agreed on this and the Tajik side accepted the invitation.

"We are working together to ensure security in our area - in the CSTO area of ​​responsibility. Tajikistan is actively working in the organization. Today we are planning to sign relevant documents, including in this area," the Russian president said.

Recall that on March 15, Russian President Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Tajik President Rahmon spoke by phone with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev. They discussed interstate relations and agreed to meet on May 9 in Moscow.

Before that, Putin spoke with Rahmon by phone on February 24. Then the leaders expressed "satisfaction with the high level of Russian-Tajik strategic partnership and alliance achieved."

The last time Putin and Rahmon met in person was in late December 2024 in the Leningrad Region.

Putin noted that residents of Tajikistan have been given the largest quota for education in Russia, and the country is ready to increase it. He also said that thanks to Rahmon's initiative, several schools have opened in Tajikistan where they study the Russian language. As of December, 72 Russian teachers were working in the republic; 82 should work from 2025. In turn, Rahmon called Russia the main trade and economic partner of Tajikistan based on the results of 2024 - trade turnover between the states increased by almost 20%.
