A SpaceX capsule just saved two NASA astronauts who had been stranded aboard the International Space Station (ISS) for over 9 months! 🚀 Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were originally supposed to return after a one-week mission in June 2024, but a critical failure on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft left them stuck in orbit—until now.

On March 16, 2025, SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule successfully docked with the ISS, carrying an international crew from the U.S., Japan, and Russia to replace Wilmore and Williams. The long-awaited moment was met with excitement, hugs, and even a playful welcome from one astronaut wearing a grey alien mask! 👽

NASA had deemed the Boeing Starliner too risky for a return trip, forcing the agency to rely on SpaceX instead. However, delays in preparing the new Crew Dragon spacecraft meant the astronauts had to wait even longer for their ride home. Now, with weather permitting, they will finally depart the ISS later this week.

This mission highlights the growing reliability of private space companies like SpaceX compared to Boeing’s struggles. Will this shift NASA’s future spaceflight plans? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! 👇
