Starship Troopers, a military science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein, depicts a militarized Earth battling an invading force of hive-mind arachnids, or “Bugs”. The story was written in response to the US suspending nuclear tests and was originally published in two parts in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction as Starship Soldier. The novel explores a militarized Earth state where armies fight the invading Bugs. Heinlein wrote the story in a few weeks.
