🐔 CHICKEN COOP #1 of 2🥚UPDATE: What Needs to Get Done, Roofing, Homestead Eggs Are Better, + Rant

We now have 2 chicken coops. 2 weeks ago, I built a second chicken coop and attached it to the shed outback. We decided to modify the shed into a safehouse for the chickens to retreat to at sundown. The shed locks and is completely secure, and by using it in this way, we are guaranteed to have no casualties to predators. I am currently sitting on a ton of chicken coop footage for an upcoming homestead vlog, it just needs to be edited. In that vlog I show you guys both coops, the old one (what you are seeing in this video) and the new one (the one I built roughly 2 weeks ago.)

In this video I give an update on the chicken coop that the neighbor & I built a while back. The main reason why we did not get chickens in 2024 is due to a lack of proper roofing on the coop. Aside from no roof, there were a few other necessary requirements that I have not yet done. Chickens will be coming this spring.

Did you know that there is a huge variety of different egg laying chickens & roosters to pick from? Some chickens lay more eggs than others (by a huge margin), are more hardy or sensitive than others, etc. Different varieties of chickens also produce eggs that have a difference in nutrient density/nutritional profile, etc.
