National average wholesale price of eggs drops for 3rd week in a row

The national average wholesale price of eggs dropped for the third consecutive week, falling to $4.15 per dozen from $8.05 just two weeks ago, due to reduced demand and a lull in bird flu outbreaks.

The USDA reports that high egg prices had previously decreased consumer demand, while slower avian flu outbreaks improved supply.

However, these price drops have not yet reached store shelves.

The Justice Department is investigating major egg producers over the soaring prices, which have become a political issue, with President Trump noting a 35% decrease in prices recently, ABC News has reported.

Despite this, consumer egg prices remained high, rising 10.4% in February from January.
