Your abs, or abdominal muscles, are a group of core muscles located between your ribs and pelvis. They play a crucial role in stabilizing your body, supporting your spine, and allowing various movements like bending, twisting, and maintaining posture.

The main muscles that make up the abs are:

1. Rectus Abdominis – This is the "six-pack" muscle that runs vertically down the front of your abdomen. It helps with bending forward (spinal flexion).

2. External Obliques – Located on the sides of your torso, these muscles help with rotating your trunk and bending sideways.

3. Internal Obliques – Found beneath the external obliques, they assist with rotation and side-bending, working in the opposite direction to the external obliques.

4. Transverse Abdominis – The deepest layer of abdominal muscles, wrapping around your sides and spine like a corset. It’s key for core stability and keeping your waist tight.
