Episode 34 - Matthew 17 : 1-8 - The Transfiguration of Jesus
Welcome Faith Seekers and Bible friends!
For the second Sunday in Lent, we will be reading and discussing Matthew 17 verses 1-8, The Transfiguration of Jesus. This is one of the most profound moments in the Bible because it reveals Jesus’ divine nature, fulfills Old Testament prophecy, and calls us to truly listen to Him.
Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain. Jesus often took Peter, James, and John with Him for key moments (such as the Garden of Gethsemane). He is preparing them for what’s ahead—His suffering, death, and resurrection. Just as Jesus had an inner circle, we too need a deep, personal connection with Him. He calls us to step away from the noise of life to experience His presence in a greater way.
Jesus’ appearance changes—His divine glory is revealed. This moment confirms that Jesus isn’t just a great teacher or prophet—He is GOD in the flesh. Sometimes, we only see Jesus as we expect Him to be (a helper, a teacher), but He is far greater than we imagine. When we truly seek Him, He reveals His power and glory to us in ways we never expected.
Moses and Elijah appear and converse with Jesus. Moses represents the Law (the commandments and covenant God gave Israel). Elijah represents the Prophets (who foretold the coming of the Messiah). Their presence shows that Jesus is the fulfillment of both the Law and the Prophets—everything in the Old Testament pointed to Him! God commands us to listen to Jesus – His voice matters more than any other.
Many people look for spiritual truth in laws, traditions, or prophecy, but Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of all truth. If we want real purpose, we must look to Him.
This passage reminds us to trust in Jesus' divine authority, seek His presence in times of doubt, and listen to His voice above all others. Just as the disciples were in awe, we too can experience His glory when we draw closer to Him in faith.
The Transfiguration reminds us to look beyond the temporary and set our hearts on the eternal glory of Christ. How can you listen more to Jesus in your daily life? 💡
