They Live (1988)

The story follows a drifter named John Nada who arrives in Los Angeles looking for work. He stumbles upon a pair of special sunglasses that allow him to see the world as it truly is: controlled by an alien race disguised as humans. These aliens use subliminal messages in media and advertising to keep humanity submissive, hiding their true skeletal-like appearance and manipulating society for their benefit.

Nada discovers that the aliens have infiltrated positions of power and wealth, while most humans are unaware of their presence. With the help of the sunglasses, he sees billboards and magazines for what they really are—commands like "Obey," "Consume," and "Stay Asleep." He teams up with a small group of resistance fighters, including a man named Frank, to expose the aliens and disrupt their control.

The film builds to a climactic confrontation as Nada and Frank attempt to destroy a broadcasting station that transmits the aliens' signal, which keeps humanity blind to the truth. After intense action and betrayal, Nada sacrifices himself to shoot down the signal, revealing the aliens' true forms to the world as the film ends.
