His intelligence inside the octagon, combined with his ability to seamlessly transition between striking and grappling, made him a formidable opponent in any weight class.
Miletich's crowning achievement came on May 7, 1998, when he defeated Mikey Burnett to become the first-ever UFC Welterweight Champion. This victory solidified his status as one of the premier fighters in the world and paved the way for a dominant championship reign.
Throughout his career, Miletich continued to compete at the highest level, defending his title multiple times and facing some of the sport's most formidable competitors. His fights against the likes of Matt Hughes, Carlos Newton, and Andrei Semenov are etched in MMA history as classics that showcased his technical mastery and indomitable spirit.
