Please Sir, Don't You Want Some More ? - Ep 3 - Jeremy, Graham, Hilary, Jamie and Nia.
It is unlike Jeremy Corbyn to shy away from an opportunity to speak up for the marginalised, ignored and downtrodden.
Since his initial election to parliament in 1983 he has consistently displayed (whether one agrees with him or not) a brave and principled adherence to his own beliefs in the face of the tyrannical party political system with its three line whips, institutional coercion and bullying instincts.
During the New Labour administrations of the late nineties and early noughties he was the most rebellious of Labour MPs, voting against the whip hundreds of times. He has campaigned for Tony Blair to face charges for war crimes.
Yet on the subject of Britain’s vaccine injured and bereaved - a marginalised group if ever there was one - Mr Corbyn remains as tight lipped as all the career politicians whose only real concern appears to be their next career move.
Some subjects are too contentious, apparently, even for Mr Corbyn to tackle.
He is the first on the list of five MPs we have approached for this third episode of Please Sir, Don’t You Want Some More? NHS guidance in the autumn stated those over the age of 65 should still be getting Covid jabs. Mr Corbyn was born in 1949.
So we sent him and four of his parliamentary colleagues, also over the age of 65, a letter on 10th December 2024 asking whether they took up the offer of a shot in the autumn.
Nobody is under any obligation to disclose their medical history. Mr Corbyn said as much when Iain Dale on LBC asked him about his vaccination status during an interview and he had a very good reason for not wanting to disclose it. As he proved on more than one occasion, however, that reticence is no bar to recommending the injections to others.
Graham Stringer has sat on two All Party Parliamentary Groups that have sought to scrutinise properly the actions of government during the pandemic era including the administration of the vaccination programme. It would be surprising if he were still taking the shots.
Jamie Stone represents a constituency in the Scottish highlands and was a vocal champion of the jabs, with multiple articles in the local newspaper marking his vaccination milestones. It is a quiet news patch.
There was not much prior vaccine support from Hilary Benn on social media but he did vote with the Tories on the vaccine pass question in December 2021 which saw Boris Johnson bring in a draconian venue-entry rules bill.
Gill Furniss - the MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough - is on the record stating the vaccine rollout is “the most important national mission in decades.”
All five were sent the letter above and asked to reply within two weeks. None of them has.
