Matthew 12:30 ‘He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad’

Since the Bible makes it clear that there is no neutral position, a Christian is not supposed to be neutral - ever, because Jesus said ‘He who is not with me, is against me.’

The last part of the Abortion Facts series, contain information that shocked and saddened me to my deepest core; because I never even considered the possibility that these horrific things could actually be happening in our Law-abiding Church; That indeed, abortions have been performed in our SDA hospitals for almost 50 years!

I do believe that most members are opposed to abortion, and I’m convinced that many will be just as shocked, disappointed and horrified by this as I am.

We’ll start off on a very short journey through history. What did our pioneers believe regarding this matter? Abortion was vehemently opposed by them. In fact, the word consistently used for abortion, is ‘murder’. Then we’ll take a summarized look at the history of abortion in our Church hospitals right up to our current 2019 position statement.

A very important point addressed in this part deals with the definition of the soul. One of the fundamental Biblical teachings of the SDA Church is that when God breathed His breath, Spirit, His Ruach into the ‘dust’ that made up Adam, man ‘became’ a living soul. Yet this is completely contradicted by a seriously flawed statement in the book: ’Seventh-day Adventists Believe’, published by the GC. This statement implies that the baby is not a living soul until he or she is born and is also in both the 1960 and 1979 editions of the ‘SDA Dictionary’.

Yet, as clearly confirmed by the Bible and by science: Life begins at conception! Could it be that this serious error in official SDA writings forms the foundation of: “the lesser value” view“ of the fetus in the early stages and the reason why abortion is considered acceptable by certain members of our Church?

I end this series with a personal statement of faith. It is my sincere prayer that the relevant leaders will repent, ask for God’s forgiveness and issue an uncompromising statement rejecting abortion in its entirety.

Will you step up with me to defend the sanctity of life? If you’re a Christian, I’m surprised that I even need to ask. It is our duty.
