Underberg is a small administrative town located in the Mzimkulu River valley of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, nestled at the foothills of the southern Drakensberg Mountains beneath the 1,904-meter Hlogoma Peak. Established in 1917 when the railway from Pietermaritzburg reached the area, it serves as a key commercial hub for the surrounding dairy and cattle farming community, offering essential support services. The town also acts as a trading center for those traveling via the nearby Sani Pass from Lesotho.

Known for its stunning natural beauty, Underberg is a gateway to the Southern Drakensberg and a thriving tourist destination. It is one of South Africa’s premier trout fly-fishing spots, alongside Dullstroom, Mpumalanga, and attracts visitors with activities like hiking, mountain biking, and the famous Sani Pass 4x4 route, which leads to the highest pub in Africa.
