Last night, after the storm, I stepped outside to check the yard.

The moonlight lit up the wet ground…

And that’s when I saw them.

Muddy footprints.

Leading straight to my door.

But they weren’t mine.

They were larger.

Like someone barefoot had walked toward my house.

I decided to follow them.

They led me into the forest behind my home.

The moonlight barely reached through the trees.

With every step…

I felt something watching me.

The footprints stopped.

Right in front of an old, twisted tree.

On its bark…

Scratch marks.

As if someone had clawed at it…

Desperately.

Then…

A branch snapped behind me.

I spun around…

But there was no one there.

The footprints were gone.

I ran back home.

But when I reached my door…

Something made my blood run cold.

There were new footprints.

This time…

Leading away from my house.

I looked up…

And in the window…

A dark figure was watching me.

Smiling.
