Political analysts know that, even if Republicans cannot win in the kingmaker congressional district, VA8, where the County of Arlington is the crown jewel, still they have to do well, mounting a battle against the well-entrenched, war-hardened Arlington Democrats, who hold all the levels of power. And as gubernatorial candidates seek an endorsement from the Republican President, trying to out-Trump the other, of little political value for voters in the congressional district with the most federal government employees, and a bastion of progressivism, where the incumbent, Don Beyer, Jr., the first in Virginia to call for impeachment, had captured over 75% of the vote while boasting about the number of proxy votes he had cast to impeach President Donald Trump in his first term. Left with little room for maneuver, Arlington GOP has pinned hopes on exploiting general angst among voters on issues ranging from crime mishandled by the incumbent prosecutor, who one fringe independent is holding accountable in court, to general complaints about education, chasing headlines regarding reports about sex offenders in public schools that no Republican attorney or parent has attempted to address by opposing Democrat candidates in school board elections, abstaining even from running for Commonwealth’s Attorney, where, like in Alexandria, Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, has run unopposed in the general election.
