Mark's Opening Remarks - 3/14/25

10 Senate Democrats joined Republicans in support of keeping the government open, with 38 Democrats, voting for a filibuster, ultimately supporting a shutdown. The Continuing Resolution (CR) will now pass with a simple majority. The media, anticipating a shutdown, was ready to criticize the Republicans for clicks but is now frustrated at Sen Chuck Schumer. Had the government shut down, Democrats would have faced a difficult situation: President Trump and DOGE could have used the opportunity to cut non-essential employees and agencies, with budget law allowing these reductions to be self-identified.
