Exploring Times Square from Above

I used Google Earth to explore around the maze of skyscrapers surrounding Times Square in Midtown Manhattan. At the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, stretching from 42nd to 47th Streets, Times Square is a dense commercial and entertainment hub packed with neon billboards, pedestrian plazas, and constant crowds. Originally called Longacre Square, it was renamed in 1904 after The New York Times moved its headquarters there. It became the epicenter of Broadway theater but fell into decline in the mid-20th century before undergoing a major revitalization in the 1990s. Now, it’s a global icon, hosting massive New Year’s Eve celebrations, street performers, and a constant flow of tourists—pulsing like the heartbeat of the city and, in many ways, the nation itself.
