EA Partially Blames ‘Halo Infinite’ For ‘Battlefield 2042’ Failure

Battlefield 2042 has been a low point for the franchise, a game lambasted by the playerbase that launched without core features and full of bugs. EA has been grappling with how and why the game failed, and they have come up with some…interesting ideas.

Xfire is reporting exclusively about a Town Hall within EA about the Battlefield 2042 launch, going through what went wrong. And one particular point brought up has garnered a lot of headlines, including my own here.

While there are more standard reasons discussed, the aforementioned bugs (which EA thought were at a “normal level” for a DICE game before launch) and missing features (which the game has promised they’ll add in the future), one culprit in particular was brought up: Halo Infinite.

From the report:

“However, according to EA, things took a turn, and that turn was clears throat, the surprise release of Halo: Infinite multiplayer (I wish I was joking).

According to Miele, the comparison between both games was not favourable because Halo Infinite was a very polished title whereas Battlefield 2042 contained bugs and wasn't as polished.”

Halo Infinite’s surprise multiplayer launch was airdropped directly on top of the Battlefield launch window, which would have been competition enough in a normal year, but the idea here is that Halo was so polished it launch, it made the incredibly buggy Battlefield look even worse by comparison.
