To force the masses into accepting these draconian measures, the government might stage a self-inflicted cyber attack—manufacturing a crisis to justify their crackdown on online anonymity and digital freedom.

Just like how the U.S. knocked down its own towers to justify war and mass surveillance, they’ll happily cripple their own digital infrastructure to manufacture a crisis—one that conveniently "requires" stricter tracking laws.
