EU plans to deport more migrants, create ‘return hubs’

The European Union announced a plan to deport more migrants by creating “return hubs” in third countries, aiming to enforce deportation orders across member states.

Currently, only 20% of those ordered to leave Europe do so.

The plan would allow EU countries to send rejected asylum seekers to these hubs, which would act as deportation centers in non-EU nations, until they can be returned to their home countries.

Rights groups argue the proposal could violate asylum rights, leading to more detentions and potential rights abuses, the DW has reported.

The EU would negotiate with third countries to accept rejected migrants, but would not manage the return hubs directly.
