Austin's Anti-Land Rovers - The Champ, Gipsy and Ant

Hello all! :D

From the 1940s to the 1960s, Austin made multiple attempts to do battle with the market leading Land Rover by providing a series of off-road utility vehicles that could be tailored for both civilian and military applications, the result being the Austin Champ, the Austin Gipsy and the Austin Ant.

Sadly, in each case, these three models would demonstrate shortcomings that would rob them of their ability to counter the Land Rover in either the civilian or military market, with the Champ being a military darling but a civilian disaster, the Gipsy being a commercial success but fail to make it into the ranks of the Army, and the Ant being neither as it never entered full production due to the merger of BMC with the Leyland Group, thus bringing the Land Rover marque in-house.
