Girl Scout Cookies, and the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital… A Chance to do Good

It’s funny, my daughter is worried about getting cancelled.

She didn’t really know what the “Subaru” line meant, and when we explained it to her, she said she didn’t want anyone to be mean to her online.

Actually, that’s not funny, that’s sad.

The idea a child could be worried about cancel culture, because the dumbest voices online are usually the loudest.

They see something they don’t like (or understand), and instead of taking a moment to reflect and/or come to terms with their own failings in life, be they emotionally, intellectually, or any myriad of shortcomings they may have that forces them to have outbursts when faced with something outside their perfect echo chamber, they scream, shout, and throw temper tantrums.

So, to the world of crybabies that exist online: my daughter read the “Subaru” line without understanding why it was funny.

If you want to be angry, you can be angry at me.

Now, that won’t do you any good, because I know the fault is within you, but whatever.

I was asked to point out in the video description that my daughter is an innocent in this lighthearted joke.

Which means it’s incredibly sad that I just took all the space I could’ve been using to write about how nice it is to do good in the world, to write about cancel culture.

Last year, we donated over 50 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to the University of Iowa Children’s hospital.

This year, we’ve surpassed that total, but we want to do more.

Because there is very little worse than a sick child.

I know giving them cookies is a little “Let them eat cake,” but sometimes a small gesture can have a big impact.

It is a reminder that people are aware of your struggles, and that that they have empathy for what you are going through.
